This general awareness course is designed for personnel who work in a laboratory setting, for the purposes of research, experimentation, instruction, etc. The purpose of this course is to provide general laboratory safety to minimize risks of injury or illness, by promoting awareness of potential hazards and how to mitigate them. Safe practices by laboratory workers requires continuing attention, training and education by all personnel involved. This course is conducted over a minimum of four (4) hours and solely includes formal classroom training.
Course Topics to include: Chemical Hygiene Programs- Regulations, Chemical Safety, Hazardous Materials Recognition, Chemical Storage, Disposal & Safe Work Practices; Fire Extinguisher Programs- Review of Fire Tetrahedron, General Fire Safety & Prevention, Emergency Action & Evacuation Plans, Fire Extinguisher Use, Review of Written Plans, Etc.
