This 32-hour course is designed for personnel who remove, encapsulate, enclose, repair or disturb asbestos, or who may handle asbestos in any manner which may result in the release of asbestos fibers while working under the direct supervision of a certified NYS Asbestos Abatement Contractor/Supervisor. This course is conducted over a minimum of four (4) days. The total instruction time includes both formal classroom instruction as well as physical hands-on training. Successful completion of this course will enable the individual to apply for NYS certification as a licensed Asbestos Handler (HAND).
Course Topics to include: Core Topics (History, Identification, Current Regulations, Health Effects, Protective Clothing, Abatement Control Options, etc.), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Federal, State & Local Asbestos Regulations, Abatement Work Practices, Medical Surveillance & Monitoring, Personal Hygiene & Decontamination Systems, Work Area Preparation & Installation of Protective Barriers/Containments, Clean-up & Disposal, Safety Hazards, Personal Air Monitoring & Reporting, Decon Construction & Establishment of Regulated Abatement Work Area Workshop, Proper Glovebag Procedures Workshop, Final Examination (multiple choice), Etc.
**Any individual looking to obtain this license MUST have a NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles Driver’s License Number or Non-Driver ID Card (DMV-ID) as required by the NYS Dept. of Labor Licensing Unit.
