This course is designed for personnel who perform the limited tasks involved in the survey, identification, recording and reporting of asbestos material or collecting bulk samples of suspected asbestos materials for laboratory analysis. This course is conducted over a minimum of three days. The total instruction time of 24 hours includes both formal classroom and hands on training. Successful completion of this course will enable the individual to apply for Building Inspector certification by New York State and fulfills EPA accreditation requirements.
Topics include: Core Topics (History, Identification, Current Regulations, Health Effects, Protective Clothing, Abatement Control Options), Role of Inspectors, Legal Liability & Defenses, Understanding the Building System, Building Occupant Relations, Inspection Planning & Review of Past Inspection Records, Inspecting for Friable & Non-Friable Asbestos Materials, Assessing Condition, Bulk Sampling/Documentation (hands-on), Respiratory Protection/PPE (hands-on), Medical Monitoring, Recordkeeping (hands-on), Inspection Workshop (hands-on).
