Expired OSHA Crystalline Silica Awareness (4-hours)

Crystalline silica is a common mineral found in the earth’s crust. Materials like sand, stone, concrete, and mortar contain crystalline silica. It is also used to make products such as glass, pottery, ceramics, bricks, and artificial stone. Respirable crystalline silica – very small particles at least 100 times smaller than ordinary sand you might find on beaches and playgrounds – is created when cutting, sawing, grinding, drilling, and crushing stone, rock, concrete, brick, block, and mortar. Activities such as abrasive blasting with sand; sawing brick or concrete; sanding or drilling into concrete walls; grinding mortar; manufacturing brick, concrete blocks, stone countertops, or ceramic products; and cutting or crushing stone result in worker exposures to respirable crystalline silica dust. Industrial sand used in certain operations, such as foundry work and hydraulic fracturing (fracking), is also a source of respirable crystalline silica exposure. About 2.3 million people in the U.S. are exposed to silica at work. Workers who inhale these very small crystalline silica particles are at increased risk of developing serious silica-related diseases, including: Silicosis (an incurable lung disease that can lead to disability and death), Lung cancer, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Kidney disease, etc. To better protect workers exposed to respirable crystalline silica, OSHA has issued two new respirable crystalline silica standards: one for construction, and the other for general industry and maritime. OSHA will begin enforcing most provisions of the standard for construction on September 23, 2017, and will begin enforcing most provisions of the standard for general industry and maritime on June 23, 2018.

Course Registration Policies

NYS Driver’s License ID # or NYS Driver ID

All students must have a valid NYS Driver’s License or NYS Driver Photo ID . If you do not have a valid NYS drivers license or NYS Photo ID, students must visit a NYS DMV to have an Image Capture Only “ICO” completed and be issued a 9 digit DMV ID number prior to attending the class.

Attendance Policy

Students are required to arrive on-time and be in attendance for the full duration of scheduled training. Late arrivals or early dismissal for any reason will result in forfeiture of training spot and tuition.

Registration Policy

QuES&T shall guarantee a class opening for all students who have pre-registered online or have forwarded a valid purchase order, attendance roster and have confirmed receipt by speaking with a Training Department Representative. All students who have not pre-registered will be included in the class on a first come/first serve basis. Payment must be made prior to inclusion in the training class and must be made by company check, money order, or major credit card.

Cancellation Policy

To receive a full refund, cancellations will be accepted up to (5) business days prior to the first day of class. If the cancellation is made less then (5) five business days prior to the first day of class the account will be credited towards future training. Tuition is non-refundable to the individual canceling on or after the first day of class. A fee of $50.00 will be charged for any returned check.
